Chris Hemsworth’s Furiosa Villain Really Does Look Like Sad Thor In The Wasteland

  • Chris Hemsworth’s new character in Furiosa, Dementus, bears a striking resemblance to his depressed Thor from Avengers: Endgame.
  • Dementus’ appearance in the trailer suggests that Hemsworth is showcasing a different side of himself as an actor, separate from his Marvel role.
  • Playing Dementus in Furiosa is a significant opportunity for Hemsworth to break away from his image as a superhero and showcase his talent as a villain in a major franchise.

Chris Hemsworth’s new Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga villain Dementus eerily resembles another character played by him at a very particular moment: depressed Thor. Furiosa is the fifth installment of the Mad Max franchise that began with Mel Gibson’s classic in 1979, which spawned the original trilogy. In 2015, Fury Road brought the saga back to life and drew a considerable amount of attention. Furiosa is a prequel to the 2015 film, with Anya Taylor-Joy playing a younger version of Charlize Theron’s character and Hemsworth also featured in the cast as an exciting new villain character.

After plenty of mystery about the film, Furiosa‘s recent trailer release has provided the first look at the movie’s story, characters, and cast. The main story will take place fifteen years before Fury Road‘s events and show how Furiosa was taken from her hometown, The Green Place. However, it is Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus that looks to be one of the most exciting things about Furiosa. The villain role comes at the perfect time for the actor looking to showcase a different side of him than the Thor movies have allowed. However, Dementus’ appearance means Hemsworth still can’t escape his Marvel role.

Dementus Driving In Furiosa And Thor Talking In Avengers Endgame

Although Chris Hemsworth has had plenty of other roles, he owes his worldwide fame to portraying iconic Marvel superhero Thor. While Thor’s usual look is quite different from Dementus’ in Furiosa‘s trailer, the Asgardian and Wastelander are comparable thanks to Avengers: Endgame. The MCU movie explores Thor’s life after Avengers: Infinity War and shows him struggling with a deep depression that leads him to be a little careless about his looks. This meant Thor’s appearance evolved to include having his beard longer than usual, his hair loose and noticeably dirtier, and his belly growing due to frequent alcohol consumption.

It is difficult to shake the Sad Thor comparisons upon seeing Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus. Living in Mad Max‘s Wasteland has given the villain an almost identical physical appearance to Thor in Avengers: Endgame. The hair and beard look almost identical, while the inclusion of red cloth in Dementus’ costume is similar to Thor’s cape. The biggest differences from Thor’s depressed state include Dementus’ darker hair, Hemsworth’s usual fit physique, and a fake nose. While that means Hemsworth’s two characters are not identical, it is still easy to think some of Furiosa‘s imagery is actually Thor in the Wasteland.

Why Chris Hemsworth’s Character In Furiosa Is So Exciting

Playing Dementus in Furiosa is a great opportunity in Chris Hemsworth’s career as he gets the chance to portray a villain in a major franchise like Mad Max. His image is mainly tied to the Marvel Universe and playing a good guy, hence the Thor comparisons. This could be a groundbreaking performance for him to move on to different parts and remind viewers of a similarly evil performance in Bad Times at the El Royale. Furthermore, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga itself is exciting, and having Hemsworth facing another great villain like Immortan Joe promises to give the actor a chance to flex his acting muscles.
