Hollywood megastar’s AFL sighting sparks commentary confusion

Chris Hemsworth cheers on his beloved Bulldogs from a private box at Marvel Stadium.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has sent the AFL world into a spin with his appearance at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Hemsworth is a passionate Western Bulldogs supporter and was clearly enjoying his team’s demolition job of the West Coast Eagles.

Cameras captured Hemsworth cheering on his team from a private box and hamming it up when he realised he was being watched.

But Fox Footy commentator and Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton became a little confused over his Hemsworths, mistaking Chris for his brother, Liam.

The AFL social media account posted vision of Hemsworth, who rose to superstardom after his role in the Marvel film Thor.

“Chris Hemsworth in the house!” the AFL announced, with the Bulldogs quickly responding, “Hi Chris (louder than everyone else).”

Hemsworth pointed to the camera and could be seen saying, “Go Doggies!”

The Dogs had earlier tweeted out their Thor jumper (that was made for a game in 2019), and the AFL ran with it, saying: “Petition to get Chris Hemsworth in one of these please.”

West Coast has become one of the AFL’s easy-beats in recent years and finished rock bottom in 2023.

They appear set for another season of pain, are winless in 2024, and currently anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

They could only manage a miserable three goals against the Bulldogs in the 76-point thumping on Sunday.

Fans loved seeing Hemsworth at the game, who is the high-profile star of the new film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

“Eagles would put him at full-forward, he’d hold his ground better than some of their own,” one fan joked on X (formerly Twitter).

Liam Hemsworth is also a Bulldogs fan and he and Chris were both in the rooms after their team’s drought-breaking premiership win in 2016.
